America’s most prized right is coming under attack. Yes, attack. The concept of free speech has begun to come under attack by billion dollar corporations, such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
Unfortunately, it’s no longer a secret that the media is biased.
Social media companies such as Twitter and Facebook, among many others, have been embroiled in numerous controversies the last few years. Media companies have clear liberal bias in both reporting and monetization. It’s quite comical truthfully, the fake image that companies such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter maintain, considering themselves platforms of democracy and free speech when that is clearly not the case. The controversy has gotten so large that even Twitter’s founder, Jack Dorsey, had to deny accusations that he was banning conservatives, as well as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who was grilled by conservative lawmakers during congressional hearings earlier this year.
Media must be fair and balanced, invulnerable from any influence from either side of the political aisle.
Let’s take the clear example of one Twitter user, @TheALX, who has reignited a cry for fair and balanced media, especially on Twitter. He is a conservative Trump supporter who had a sizable following on the platform, when he was suddenly suspended from the platform, with absolutely no viable explanation whatsoever. Unfortunately, that isn’t the only instance of conservatives being banned on social media platforms. Even President Donald Trump’s Twitter account was mysteriously shut down for a short period of time. Other famous conservatives such as comediennes Diamond and Silk, and provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos have been banned from Twitter as well for “violating guidelines.”
How come people like James Gunn don’t get banned for making “jokes” about molesting children, and having sex with them? There is a clear double standard in place.
The time is now to speak out against the censoring of conservative political figures simply because the mighty corporations don’t agree. It’s time to stand up and speak out against the injustices in which we’re faced with in this digital age. It’s time to speak out.
